Commodore Message

Welcome spring!

Spring is a time when we are frantically scraping and painting in preparation for the start of boating season. I’m looking forward to seeing the marina full again. Many of you will notice new docks, cleats, etc. Again, thank you to the Anchorage Committee. Please remember to check in with the Fleet Captain prior to arrival.

The wind has been incredible the past few months. For those that sail, race or crew -we have a great deal more for you this summer. Our Race Chair and members of the Race Committee met with the Edgewood Yacht Club Race Committee to discuss opportunities to participate in many more races and sailing events. And we’re bringing back a RIYC classic- the Ladies Cup Regatta. Look for more news sent directly to your in box!

Member Dean Scanlon has been busy promoting our Club in events around the area, most recently the Warwick Rotary Gourmet Gala, Statewide Business After Hours and the Pawtuxet Village Wedding Stroll!

And Dean’s team from Revolution continues to serve fabulous meals every day. Don’t miss out starting your weekend with waterfront dinning in the Commodore Room on Fridays. You can expect more live entertainment too. Please make your reservations early!

And events – thanks to all the members that participated in the Pool League, High Low Jack Tournament, St. Patrick’s Day, Kid’s Easter Party, and Easter Brunch!

Thanks to the Junior Activities & Social Committees, Fleet Captain Paul Labbe, Brian & Catherine Choiniere, and to all our volunteers for making these events a success. Check out this month’s volunteer Shout-Out. You never know what to expect on a Saturday morning!

RIYC has a long history and strong traditions. We’re Rhode Island’s oldest yacht club and among one of the oldest in the country. The Past Commodores’ Dinner Dance, a tradition celebrated by yacht clubs honoring Past Commodores for their service; and a tradition celebrated at RIYC for over 140 years. This year it’s being held on April 29th. It’s a wonderful evening full of history, magnificent food and company, a few cocktails and dancing.

As we celebrate spring, I encourage all members to attend events, lend a hand, sit on the deck & enjoy the sunset - take part in your Club.
